382 Suspected Criminals Arrested By Police in Katsina


The police in Katsina State say they have arrested 382 suspected criminals, comprising 102 cattle rustlers and 280 others, for different offences from May to date.


The state Commissioner of Police, Usman Abdullahi,  said this when he received the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Logistics and Supply, Mamman  Tsafe, who visited the Katsina State Police command on Thursday.

Abdullahi said to combat the menace of cattle theft, the command had set up 19 anti-cattle rustling teams with 290 officers and men.

The state Police boss, who noted that the command was facing challenges of cattle rustlers, said so far 102 of the animal thieves had been arrested, while over 1,000 cattle, sheep and goats had been recovered and those identified were released to their owners.

He added that out of the 280 suspected criminals arrested for various crimes, 182 had been prosecuted for local banditry, known as “Kauraye”.

He said during the period under review, the command recovered some stolen vehicles, which included two 4matic Benz,  a Toyota Camry and one Mitsubishi car, as well as two SMG rifles, two pistols and 13 locally-made guns from the criminals across the state.
