The Benin Electricity Distribution Company says it has the target of supplying 100,000 prepaid meters to its numerous customers in Edo, Delta, Ondo and Ekiti states every year.
The Chief Executive Officer of the company Mrs. Funke Osinbodu, stated this while speaking with journalists in Akure, the Ondo State capital, on Wednesday.
The CEO, who was represented by the Chief Risk Officer of the company, Mr. Billy Afolabi, said as part of its commitment to quality service delivery to its customers, the company would do everything possible to meet the target at the shortest possible time.
She explained that the company inherited 8,000 meters from the defunct Power Holding Company of Nigerian, noting that 74,073 meters were paid for by the customers but yet to be supplied while 72,000 prepaid meters had been installed in 19 months of the company’s existence.
The BEDC boss warned the customers against patronising touts or middlemen while purchasing meters and also urged them to report to any BEDC Unit office any member of staff of the company attempting to extort money from them in the process of purchasing meters or to mend faulty transformers.
On the new billing system introduced by the company, Osinbodu said this was to eradicate all manner of errors inherited in the old billing system, adding that the company inherited 300,000 customers on estimated billing from the defunct PHCN.
