Bianca Ojukwu’s Next Move

When beautiful Bianca Ojukwu was named Ambassador to Spain by former President Goodluck Jonathan, it was greeted with mixed feelings.

Many had viewed the appointment as a compensation of sorts for the Chief Emeka Odumegwu Ojukwu clan, while some concluded that it was an opportunity for the beautiful lady to serve her fatherland.

On assumption of office in faraway Spain, she displayed her brilliance and intelligence, as she carried out her assignments, which many had thought would be too overwhelming for her, with uncommon ease.
This, we gathered, endeared her to many Nigerians in that country; and in no time, she received awards from many that found her a worthy Nigerian ambassador.

We learnt that Bianca, despite her achievements and aristocratic background, carried out her duties as a detribalised Nigerian. She was said to have also mixed freely with Nigerians in Spain, irrespective of their ethnic or religious backgrounds. Besides, she maintained a very warm relationship between Nigeria and Spain during her tenure.
No doubt, Bianca is one of the many lucky Nigerians born with silver spoons being the sixth child of former Anambra State governor, Christian Onoh. She was reading  Politics, Economics and Law at the University of Buckingham, but had to seek a transfer to the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, on the insistence of her father, who wanted her to major in Law, so she could join his firm in Nigeria upon graduation.

In 1988, she contested and won the Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria (MBGN) pageant, a development that gave her instant fame. She, however, resigned her position, following a scandal that she was dating the late Biafran warlord, the Ikemba of Nnewi Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu. It was a most trying period for her. The rumour was later confirmed, as she got married to the former Eastern Region military governor in an elaborate wedding. Eventually, she put the scandal behind her and moved on with her life.
Upon the demise of her love, she, again, encountered another tempestuous period from her in-laws over some properties bequeathed to her by the late Ikemba.  Again, she proved that she is a lady with nine lives, as she also survived the family battles.

Unlike some others who would have changed negatively by these unpleasant experiences, the former beauty queen has remained humble and simple. Having been recalled along with other non-career ambassadors by the new government of President Muhammad Buhari, many are wondering what would be her move. As a former beauty queen and widow of one of the personalities that shaped the history of Nigeria, she is like a gold fish without a hiding place. All eyes will continue to be focused on her.
