Ekiti State OPC, Begs Gov. Fayose to Release Leader From Prison Custody

Governor Ayodele Fayose

The Oodua Peoples Congress in Ekiti State has appealed to Governor Ayodele Fayose to secure release of its Chairman, Adeniyi Adedipe, from prison custody.

Adedipe is on remand for alleged complicity in the murder of former state chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Omolafe Aderiye, on September 25, 2014.

Omolafe, a staunch supporter of the governor, was killed on September 25, 2014, in Ijigbo Area of the state capital.

Making the appeal at the weekend, an OPC executive member in the state, Segun Egunlusi, urged the governor to reconsider Adedipe’s case because his remand was “political.”

Describing Adedipe and Aderiye as “brothers and business partners with long years of close bond,” he added that Adedipe had used his office to collaborate with successive administrations and security agencies to fight crime and would never be involved in any criminal act.

He expressed sadness that Adedipe’s remand in prison custody prevented him from participating in the funeral rites of his late father saying the group had no option than to appeal to Fayose to intervene in his plight.

Egunlusi said, “We urge the governor to urgently intervene in the remand of our state leader, the Apase Oodua, Prince Adeniyi Adedipe. We want to state clearly without any fear of contradiction that he is innocent of Aderiye’s killing.

“We want the state government to temper justice with mercy because we know that he is suffering as a result of politics. He had no hand in the murder of Aderiye.

“We want the governor to be merciful to Apase because he has suffered unjustly for the offence he knew nothing about and we are ready to cooperate with his administration as we did other administrations before it.”
