An unemployed man, Abah Arome, has been arrested and charged before an Ejigbo Senior Magistrates’ Court 2, sitting in Lagos State, for allegedly parading himself as a police officer, reports Leadership Newspaper.
Arome, a 33-year-old man, who was docked on a one-count charge of impersonation, is said to have been in the business for many years where he has been defrauding innocent Nigerians, was arraigned before Magistrate A.A Fashola, by Corporal Femi Adeleye, the prosecutor in the case.
Adeleye told the court that the accused was arrested on October 19, at about 2.30 pm at the Iyana Ipaja area of the state dressed in a police uniform.
“The defendant on the said date and time, did claim to be an officer of the Federal Republic of Nigeria by wearing a police uniform.
He also stood on Iyana Ipaja Highway and extorted money from commercial drivers and motorcyclists plying the said route," Adeleye told the court.
The suspect pleaded not guilty to the one-count charge and Magistrate Fashola admitted him to bail in the sum of N100, 000 while the case was adjourned till November 23, for mention.
