Parishioners of the Adoration Ministry (AMEN), Enugu, have accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Ohanaeze Ndigbo of sponsoring the transfer of its founder, Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka.
It said the Catholic Bishop of Enugu Diocese, Rev. Calistus Onaga, was presurrised into transferring Rev. Mbaka out of Enugu.
A statement by Kingsley Eze (Igbo Youth Kaduna); Sunday Ukam (Enugu Adorer); Adedije Wale (Osun State, Adorer), and 20 others, maintained that Mbaka’s transfer fell short of the routine transfer of priests in the diocese.
They alleged that whereas former Bishops supported Mbaka, Bishop Onaga was acting a script aimed at bringing the fiery priest down.
The statement said: “What Bishop Michael Eneja saw and allowed, Bishop Gbuji protected and watered, but Bishop Onaga uprooted in a most barbaric and despondent manner.
“Sometime ago, he ordered that the Wednesday all-night prayer be stopped, which Fr. Mbaka complied with. The directive would have blown out the ministry’s fire if not for the intervention of the Holy Spirit.
“Is Bishop Onaga angry that Fr. Mbaka is prophesying? Was it not from his seat that Fr. Mbaka was ordained a priest, a king and prophet? How then can the Church become worried when he begins to prophesy? Does the Church contradict itself?
“We are not happy with the transfer but we encourage Fr. Mbaka not to be discouraged. We are behind him; even if he is posted to the moon, we shall be there with him. Let those behind this transfer come out and compete with Fr Mbaka in preaching the gospel, in prayers, in fasting or in charity.
“The transfer is not our problem but the manner it was done. It struck us like thunder and we can’t but ask – is this the fight of faith that the diocese is enjoined to fight?
“While the true lovers of the Catholic Church are thinking of how to protect Fr. Mbaka, his own diocese just exposed and left him without shelter.
“Most Nigerians know that the uncommon silence of Bishop Onaga over Fr Mbaka’s prophesy of the defeat of the Goodluck Jonathan administration was not for nothing; he was only waiting for the time to carry out the script of the stalwarts of the overthrown party.
“A few weeks before the posting, the voice of a faction of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo was heard barking at Fr Mbaka to ‘shut up’ over his prophesies. And now comes the posting in a manner as to really shut Fr Mbaka up. Sources close to Bishop Onaga said he confessed to have succumbed to pressure from Ohanaeze Ndigbo and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
“The posting is not Holy Ghost-oriented but PDPnized and Ohanaezenized, and any cleric, be him Pastor, Bishop or Cardinal that supported this is an enemy of the Holy Spirit.
“How can the Bishop just wake up and tell Fr Mbaka to pack, as a third priest, into a parish that cannot comfortably contain two priests? Is it meant to punish him? Is that the way the Church wants to reward him for the glory he has brought to the Catholic Church; for taking care of the flocks?”
They warned the Secretary of the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria, Rev. Fr. Raph Madu to stay out of Mbaka’s ministry.
“We are ready for a religious revolution if the stage-managed defamation against Fr Mbaka persists. We have been silent because Fr Mbaka has been calming us down to protect the image of the Church, but this time, we will not hold our peace for we believe that respect is reciprocal.”
