Manchester United Sign Alexis As Mkhitaryan Joins Arsenal

The Chilean has left Arsenal for Old Trafford, with the former Borussia Dortmund star heading to the Emirates as part of the deal
Manchester United have completed the   transfer of Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal, with Henrikh Mkhitaryan joining the Gunners in a straight player swap with no fees involved.

The Chile international looked destined for Manchester City until recently, with the Sky Blues appearing set to wrap up a move for around £20m having originally agreed a £60m fee with Arsenal last summer.

But United stole in with a late approach to secure the signing of Sanchez, who is set to earn a Premier League record of around £350,000 a week, on a four-and-a-half-year deal having allowed his Arsenal contract to run down to its final six months.

“I am thrilled to be joining the biggest club in the world," Sanchez, who takes the club's No.7 shirt, told Man Utd's official website. "I have spent three-and-a-half wonderful years at Arsenal and I bring with me very positive memories of that great club and its fans.

"The chance to play in this historic stadium and to work with Jose Mourinho was something I could not turn down. I am very proud to be the first Chilean player ever to play for United’s first team and I hope I can show our fans all around the world why the club wanted to bring me here.”

Man Utd manager Jose Mourinho - who got one over his old rival Pep Guardiola at Man City with the signing - praised his new player's impressive attributes and thanked Mkhitaryan for his contribution at Old Trafford.

“Alexis is one of the best attacking players in the world and he will complete our very young and talented group of attacking players," the Portuguese said.

"He will bring his ambition, drive and personality, qualities that make a Manchester United player and a player that makes the team stronger and the supporters proud of their club dimension and prestige.

"I would like to wish Henrikh all the success and happiness that I am sure he is going to get. He is a player that we will not forget, especially for his contribution to our Europa League victory."

Mkhitaryan, who successfully sorted out his visa on Monday afternoon along with Sanchez, said it was a "dream" to play for the Gunners.

"I’m very happy that we could finish this deal and I’m very happy to be here," the attacker told Arsenal's official website.

"It’s a dream come true because I’ve always dreamed of playing for Arsenal. Now that I’m here, I’ll do my best for this club to create history."

Arsenal coach Wenger added: "Henrikh is a very complete player. He creates chances, he defends well, he can absorb distances and he’s very committed as well. I must say he’s a player who has all the attributes."

The arrival of Sanchez will be considered a real coup by United after the player had come so close to signing with rivals City, who finally pulled the plug on their own interest in the 29-year-old last Sunday.

Sanchez spent three-and-a-half years at Arsenal, having arrived at the Emirates Stadium from Barcelona in 2014 for around £32m. He previously had spells with Cobreloa, River Plate, Colo Colo and Udinese.

The completion of the transfer comes almost a decade after United's first serious interest in the Chilean while still playing with Udinese in Serie A, and is the first deal to see an Arsenal player leave for Old Trafford since Robin van Persie's high-profile move in 2012.

Mkhitaryan's exit as part of the deal ends the Armenian's 18-month spell at rollercoaster Old Trafford since arriving from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2016, with the 29-year-old signing with the Gunners until the summer of 2021.

He spent two lengthy periods out of favour under Mourinho but did play a huge part in United's Europa League triumph in 2016-17, scoring the second goal in the 2-0 victory over Ajax in last May's final.

Klopp Mocks Arsenal Over Sale Of Alexis Sanchez

Image result for Photos of Klopp and Arsene Wenger
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp insists he would never sell a player to a rival Premier League club during the season like Arsenal are set to with Alexis Sanchez.

Alexis is believed to be close to completing a move to Manchester United, with Henrikh Mkhitaryan set to join Arsenal.

The transfer would be a huge boost to United, who are second in the table and have Mkhitaryan out of favour.

However, Klopp said there was no chance he would let a star leave for a rival English club during a campaign.

"No Liverpool player of this squad would leave – and not just because we say it but because of their commitment to the club," he told UK newspapers.
"No-one would leave to any other Premier League club during the season.
"I'm not just confident of that – I know it. It is just impossible. No player who is here will say, 'OK, come on, in the middle of the season I go there or there.' I really cannot see that situation."

While Klopp said he still had a developing squad, the German believes Liverpool are heading in the right direction.

"It's how I see the commitment of the players. We are not together for 10 years or so," he said.
"It's not just starting but it's still all fresh and the direction and the development is the right direction.
"I know it's far away from being perfect but it's on a good way."

Oprah Winfrey delivers powerful speech after becoming first black woman to win Cecil B. Demille award at Golden Globes

Media mogul, Oprah Winfrey, at the 75th Golden Globes award which was held last night won the Cecil B. Demille award, making her the first black woman to win the award since its inception in 1943.

Delivering her speech, Opray Winfrey who is a role model to many, said;

“Ah! Thank you. Thank you all. O.K., O.K. Thank you, Reese. In 1964, I was a little girl sitting on the linoleum floor of my mother’s house in Milwaukee, watching Anne Bancroft present the Oscar for best actor at the 36th Academy Awards. She opened the envelope and said five words that literally made history: “The winner is Sidney Poitier.” Up to the stage came the most elegant man I had ever seen. I remember his tie was white, and of course his skin was black. And I’d never seen a black man being celebrated like that. And I’ve tried many, many times to explain what a moment like that means to a little girl — a kid watching from the cheap seats, as my mom came through the door bone-tired from cleaning other people’s houses. All I can do is quote and say that the explanation’s in Sidney’s performance in “Lillies of the Field”: “Amen, amen. Amen, amen.” In 1982, Sidney received the Cecil B. DeMille Award right here at the Golden Globes, and it is not lost on me that at this moment there are some little girls watching as I become the first black woman to be given this same award.
It is an honor, and it is a privilege to share the evening with all of them, and also with the incredible men and women who inspired me, who challenged me, who sustained me and made my journey to this stage possible. Dennis Swanson, who took a chance on me for “A.M. Chicago”; Quincy Jones, who saw me on that show and said to Steven Spielberg, “Yes, she is Sophia in ‘The Color Purple’”; Gayle, who’s been the definition of what a friend is; and Stedman, who’s been my rock — just a few to name. I’d like to thank the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, because we all know that the press is under siege these days.
But we also know that it is the insatiable dedication to uncovering the absolute truth that keeps us from turning a blind eye to corruption and to injustice. To tyrants and victims and secrets and lies. I want to say that I value the press more than ever before, as we try to navigate these complicated times. Which brings me to this: What I know for sure is that speaking your truth is the most powerful tool we all have. And I’m especially proud and inspired by all of the women who have felt strong enough and empowered enough to speak up and share their personal stories. Each of us in this room are celebrated because of the stories that we tell. This year we became the story. But it’s not just a story affecting the entertainment industry. It’s one that transcends any culture, geography, race, religion, politics or workplace.
So I want tonight to express gratitude to all the women who have endured years of abuse and assault, because they — like my mother — had children to feed and bills to pay and dreams to pursue. They’re the women whose names we’ll never know. They are domestic workers and farm workers; they are working in factories and they work in restaurants, and they’re in academia and engineering and medicine and science; they’re part of the world of tech and politics and business; they’re our athletes in the Olympics and they’re our soldiers in the military.
And they’re someone else: Recy Taylor, a name I know and I think you should know, too. In 1944, Recy Taylor was a young wife and a mother. She was just walking home from a church service she’d attended in Abbeville, Ala., when she was abducted by six armed white men, raped, and left blindfolded by the side of the road, coming home from church. They threatened to kill her if she ever told anyone, but her story was reported to the N.A.A.C.P., where a young worker by the name of Rosa Parks became the lead investigator on her case and together they sought justice. But justice wasn’t an option in the era of Jim Crow. The men who tried to destroy her were never persecuted. Recy Taylor died 10 days ago, just shy of her 98th birthday. She lived, as we all have lived, too many years in a culture broken by brutally powerful men. And for too long, women have not been heard or believed if they dared to speak their truth to the power of those men. But their time is up. Their time is up. Their time is up.
And I just hope that Recy Taylor died knowing that her truth — like the truth of so many other women who were tormented in those years, and even now tormented — goes marching on. It was somewhere in Rosa Parks’s heart almost 11 years later, when she made the decision to stay seated on that bus in Montgomery. And it’s here with every woman who chooses to say, “Me too.” And every man — every man — who chooses to listen. In my career, what I’ve always tried my best to do, whether on television or through film, is to say something about how men and women really behave: to say how we experience shame, how we love and how we rage, how we fail, how we retreat, persevere, and how we overcome. And I’ve interviewed and portrayed people who’ve withstood some of the ugliest things life can throw at you, but the one quality all of them seem to share is an ability to maintain hope for a brighter morning — even during our darkest nights.
So I want all the girls watching here and now to know that a new day is on the horizon! And when that new day finally dawns, it will be because of a lot of magnificent women, many of whom are right here in this room tonight, and some pretty phenomenal men, fighting hard to make sure that they become the leaders who take us to the time when nobody ever has to say, ‘Me too,’ again. Thank you.”

Barcelona Completes The Signing of Philippe Coutinho -Liverpool FC statement

Liverpool Football Club today issued the following statement regarding the future of Philippe Coutinho.

Liverpool FC can confirm Philippe Coutinho will be leaving the club after a transfer agreement was reached with FC Barcelona, subject to medical and agreement of personal terms.
The player now has permission to complete the usual formalities to conclude the transfer immediately.

Multiple reports in both Spain and England suggest the two clubs reached a transfer fee of £142 million (€160m, $192.7m), with Liverpool receiving £105m (€120m, $142m) up-front and the rest in performance-related add-ons.

Even the base figure would make Coutinho, 25, the second-most expensive player in world football behind Neymar, who left Barcelona for Paris Saint-Germain last summer in a deal worth €222m (£200m, $263m).

However, Kylian Mbappe will pass him for second on the list this summer when his €180m (£166m) permanent move from Monaco to PSG comes into effect after this year's loan.

Barcelona said Coutinho would sign a five-and-a-half year contract with a buyout clause of €400m. Liverpool said the deal was still subject to formalities including a medical and agreement of personal terms.

Liverpool rejected three offers -- the highest £118m -- for Coutinho from the Catalan outfit last summer after the player filed a transfer request, with the English club's owners, Fenway Sports Group, then holding a firm not-for-sale stance.

Coutinho has been sidelined by a thigh injury and was among a number of Liverpool players who stayed behind as the rest of the team departed for a warm-weather training camp in Dubai following Friday's FA Cup win.

He has not played in either of Liverpool's matches since the winter transfer window opened on Jan. 1, although manager Jurgen Klopp had said this week that he expected the Brazilian to be fit for next weekend.

Klopp said in a statement that the club bid Coutinho farewell with "great reluctance."

"It is no secret that Philippe has wanted this move to happen since July, when Barcelona first made their interest known," Klopp said. "Philippe was insistent with me, the owners and even his teammates this was a move he was desperate to make happen.

"Despite that, we managed to keep the player here beyond the summer window, hoping that we would be able to persuade him to stay and be part of what we are looking to do.
"I can tell the Liverpool supporters that we, as a club, have done everything within our means to convince Philippe that remaining part of LFC was as attractive as moving to Spain, but he is 100 percent certain his future -- and that of his family -- belongs at Barcelona.
"It is his dream, and I am now convinced there is nothing left at our disposal to change his mind."

Coutinho scored 41 Premier League goals after joining Liverpool from Inter Milan in January 2013, the 14th-most in the span since his debut. His 504 shots in that time rank fourth, while his 35 assists are sixth.

Inter, meanwhile, are set to miss out on a huge financial windfall as they did not insert a sell-on clause when they sold Coutinho to Liverpool for £11.7m, a source told ESPN FC in August.

Instead, the Italian side, along with Brazilian club Vasco da Gama -- where Coutinho began his footballing career -- believe they are only in line to receive a very small percentage of the transfer fee under FIFA's solidarity mechanism.

The solidarity payment amounts to just 5 percent of the agreed transfer fee, with the buying club withholding that figure and then distributing it among clubs who qualify for payment. The full 5 percent would not be allocated between Inter and Vasco, with Liverpool having Coutinho on their books since he was 20 years of age.

Coutinho will reunite with former teammate Luis Suarez at Barcelona, after the Uruguayan striker left Anfield for the Camp Nou in 2014.

Barcelona, who host Levante in La Liga on Sunday, lead the Spanish league by six points and are also through to the knockout stage of the Champions League. They will face Chelsea beginning in February, but Coutinho will not be eligible because he already played for Liverpool in the group stage.

Liverpool, fourth in the Premier League, made a transfer splash of their own this month by spending £75m to get Virgil van Dijk from Southampton -- a world record for a defender.
Coutinho made his debut for Brazil in 2010 and played at the Copa America in 2015 and 2016. He is yet to appear at a World Cup but played in 13 of Brazil's 18 qualifiers for Russia 2018.

Though Coutinho's reported base fee is the second-highest behind Neymar in both pounds and euros -- the currencies most commonly used to define transfers -- it is third in U.S. dollars at $142m, still behind Gareth Bale's $145m (£86m, €100m) move to Real Madrid in 2013, because of changing exchange rates.
