What I discussed with Buhari – Archbishop of Canterbury

What I discussed with Buhari - Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby lailasnews
President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Mohammadu Buhari is currently in the UK and earlier today he received Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, at the Abuja House, London.

After their meeting the Nigerian Presidency had circulated a statement detailing the outcome of the meeting.

The Archbishop has also released a statement on what was discussed with the Nigerian President

READ FULL STATEMENT BY THE ARCHBISHOP BELOW.

I expressed deep concern about the suffering resulting from raids on Christian communities and villages as far south as Delta State. We discussed the causes of such depredations, which have led to very many deaths and threaten an escalation of violence. I urged measures to restore confidence in the neutrality of the state, and spoke of the suffering of the poor in such tragedies.

I also raised the urgent situation of Leah Sharibu – the 14-year old Dapchi Christian school girl still held captive by Boko Haram for refusing to convert to Islam – and urged the President to do everything possible to secure her release.

I briefed President Buhari about my pastoral visit to Nigeria in 2014 following the abduction of the Chibok girls, and assured him of my continued prayers for the release of all those still in captivity. The President promised that the Government would do all in its power to secure their release.

No country or society can flourish without excellent education – so it was good to speak with the President about how education helps tackle poverty. I highlighted the vital role that churches in England play not just in educating a million children, but in providing them with values, identity and purpose.

Please join me in standing prayerfully with those suffering from the herder-farmer conflict, the Boko Haram insurgency, and all those mourning the loss of loved ones. It’s so important that we pray for the peace and progress of Nigeria – and particularly for the liberating peace of Jesus to be with all those held in captivity.

Governor Ayo Fayose's Brother Describes Ibadan As A Dead City.. See what he wrote

Isaac who is the younger brother of Ekiti state governor, Ayo Fayose, this afternoon took to his Facebook page to berate the state of Ibadan city in Oyo state, asking if they still have a governor. He wrote

The dead city of IBADAN:
Ancient city with no life.... Shoprite with its dead escalators , broken entrance, empty malls, dry KFC, huge pot holes, struggling businesses and Yahoo boys on the rise. No industry, more churches coming up due to the high level of poverty, and regular police harassment because they are broke and hungry??
Ibadan used to be home of the elite back in the days. Ironically their generation doesn't want to live in Ibadan anymore?

Is this ancient city truly dead?
Do we actually have a governor?
Where is the hope?

“When Buhari is declared dead the plan is for Osinbajo to appoint Nasir El Rufai as his VP. “Tony Blair has come to Kaduna to convey British approval of that plan. “El Rufai is slotted to take over from Osinbajo in 2019 but God will shock them.
“When will the British leave us alone? When will they stop manipulating us and interfering in our affairs?
“The blood of the Christians and Shiite Muslims of S. Kaduna speaks against … admin.. “They are finished and all their plans will fail. “The Lord shocked Buhari.
He will shock this lot too. “Their power is broken and their time is over”

The House of Representatives has summoned the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, to appear before it over his recent comments about the National Assembly and the 2017 budget. Fashola and the National Assembly have engaged in a war of words in the last one week, over the adjustment of the Ministries 2017 budget presented to the house for screening.

Fashola had challenged the authority of the National Assembly members to insert projects that his ministries did not include in the 2017 budget.

He accused the National Assembly of slashing N21 billion off the N31 billion proposed for the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway. In one of his recent statements released in this regard, he accused the lawmakers of having “stark and worrisome knowledge” of the budget process.

During plenary today, one of the members of the House, Hon. Sadiq raised a point of order on comments made by Fashola and asked that the Minister should be summoned to appear before an ad-hoc committee of the House. He accused Fashola of breach of privilege and incitement of Nigerians against their representatives.

APC govs tackle Fayose over comment on Buhari’s health

Image result for photos of Fayose and Buhari
GOVERNORS elected on the platform of All Progressives Congress, APC, yesterday, tackled Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State on his allegation that President Muhammadu Buhari, who is on medical vacation in London, was on life support. The APC governors also stated that all the apparatuses of the nation’s government had been handed over to the Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, pending the return of the President.

Chairman of APC Governors Forum, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, in an interview with State House correspondents in Abuja, advised Nigerians to disregard Governor Fayose’s comment on Buhari’s health, describing the comments as baseless. The Progressives Governors Forum Chairman also disclosed that the agitations by youths in the South-East was a result of the neglect of the zone, even as he said the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, was only seeking relevance for himself but cashing in on the alleged neglect of the zone. Fayose’s comment capable of causing chaos Okorocha said the comment made by Governor Fayose, who is the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP,  Governors Forum, was capable of throwing the country into chaos. He said:

“As you are aware, we are passing through a very difficult time in our nation and we have a lot of challenges— political, economical, social, cultural and what have you. “I want to advise that this is what many great nations of the world have passed through before getting to their point of greatness and Nigeria will not be an exception. We must see this time as a trying period for Nigeria and by the grace of God, we shall overcome.
“This called to question the recent statement created to Governor Fayose over the health of Mr. President. I want to advise that Fayose statement should not be regarded. It is baseless and there is no substance in that information. What he said is not right, it is uncalled for and that is simply over heating the polity. Osinbajo has all presidential powers “Moreover, the country is stable. The Acting President is doing a beautiful job, he is meeting up the daily duties of Mr. President. There is no vacuum and so there is no cause for alarm. “We must at this point give every support to Mr. President and we are hoping that very soon Mr. President will come back and join us. On call for Buhari’s resignation On the  call by Governor Fayose for the resignation of President Buhari, Okorocha said the Ekiti State governor lacked the powers to make such call.

He said:

“Well, I have just said that even the speculation he is making is wrong, it is unfounded. And if anybody is to speak about the President’s health, Fayose does not have the qualifications to speak for the nation on whether Mr. President should resign or stay. “It is not in our culture, it is not in our tradition. We sympathize with those who go through pains of ill-health, at that time we don’t wish them death, we wish them well. And Mr. President’s office is properly taken care of by Mr. Acting President of Nigeria until Mr. President comes back home and continues his work and finishes his term. But to say he should resign is cheap talk and does not make sense in anyway.”

Nnamdi Kanu is seeking relevance The APC Governors Forum Chairman, while commenting on the recent secessionist agitation and the ultimatum to the South-East to vacate the 19 states of the North before October 1, said it had been agreed that Nigeria would remain a united and indissoluble country. He said:

“But we must never take this unity of Nigeria for granted. We are better off a bigger nation, we are better off as one nation. We are going through problems but these problems do not mean they cannot be surmounted. On whether the Acting President would involve Nnamdi Kanu in the consultative meeting on the unity of the country, he said if there was need for that, Kanu would be involved. “Nnamdi Kanu, a young man seeking relevance,   agitating for whatever he believes in, what he stands for must be treated separately from the entire Igbo nation. The question is does Nnamdi Kanu has the capacity to lead Igbos to war? Or lead me and the governors to war? So I will stand now and Nnamdi Kanu will tell me stand up let’s go to war? ‘’So sometimes we over dramatize issue just to make a big deal out of it and that has been the big challenge,’’ he said.

The relief granted to Saraki by the court include “the sum of N1 billion as general and aggravated damages for libelous words falsely, maliciously and recklessly published by the defendants of and concerning the claimant in the online issue of Sahara Reporters of October 5, 2015 under the caption “Nigeria at 55: Bukola Saraki and 83 Inmates Are Running the Asylum.

INEC accuses Kogi state governor, Yahaya Bello, of double voters registration

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has accused Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello, of registering twice as a voter in Nigeria. In a statement released on social media, the electoral umpire says Yahaya's action is illegal.

According to the statement, Yahaya had first registered on January 30th 2011 in Wuse, Abuja and then did another registration for the second time on Tuesday May 23rd 2017 in Government House, Lokoja. INEC says no electoral staff was asked to register him. Read the statement after the cut..

It has come to the attention of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State, registered as a voter for the second time on Tuesday May 23, 2017 in Government House, Lokoja, the state capital. His first registration was on 30th January, 2011, in Wuse Zone 4, Abuja. The Governor’s double registration and doing so outside INEC’s designated centres are both illegal. For the on-going Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, INEC has designated a centre in each of the country’s 774 Local Government Areas including FCT’s six Area Councils. INEC wishes to inform the public that it completely dissociates itself from the Governor’s action. We wish to make it clear that no INEC staff was authorised by the Commission to re-register him or any citizen, or to do so outside our designated CVR centres. The Commission is taking disciplinary action against the INEC staff involved. As for the State Governor, Section 308 (1) (a) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), precludes INEC from prosecuting him while in office. However, the Commission wishes to state that it has cancelled his second and illegal registration forthwith because our Electoral Law and the Commission’s guidelines make no exception for anyone to register more than once and to register outside the designated centres.
