11-Year Old Girl Killed and 23 Others Injured in Bus Bomb Explosion

After the explosion bus was destroyed by fire
An 11-year-old girl was killed and 23 others injured when a bomb exploded in a bus in the southern Philippines, police said on Friday.

The bus was parked at a public terminal in Zamboanga City, 875 kilometres South of Manila, when the explosion occurred, said city Police Chief Angelito Casimiro.

“The injured were rushed to hospitals for various wounds from the blast which triggered a fire that destroyed the bus,’’ Casimiro said.

Authorities were considering extortion as a possible motive as a similar incident in 2013 left three dead.

Officials also noted the increased operations of Islamist extremists and Muslim rebels in the area.
