The Nigerian Army has arrested 16 suspected Boko Haram collaborators in Yobe for alleged involvement in Boko Haram activities and supplying logistics to the insurgents to carry out their terror acts in the state.
Acting Commander of the 27th military Task Force Brigade in Damaturu, Colonel Dahiru Bako, who paraded the suspects before journalists yesterday in Damaturu, said they were arrested in different locations across the state.
Bako said some of the suspects were arrested shortly after allegedly carrying out an operation at the outskirts of Damaturu, the state capital, where they killed two villagers. He said others were apprehended as collaborators and informants of the insurgents
He said the second category of the suspects were involved in supply of logistics like foodstuff, fuel, cigarettes, intoxicants and other consumables to the terror group.
He showed some of the items said to have been recovered from the suspects and their alleged collaborators. These items include 16 kegs of 25 litres of petrol, eight kegs of cooking oil, two bags of cannabis and large quantity of assorted drugs.
Others include 10 bags of Rice, two Bags of sugar, 12 bags of millet and six bags of potash and 12 bags of fertilizers which the army said it suspected was being used in the production of Improvised Explosive Devices (IED).
The commander said the military and other security agencies were determined to tackle the activities of the insurgents. He appealed to the people to continue to support the military to end the insurgency in the northeast.
