Fake DSP and 43 MASOB members arrested in Anambra state

A 32-year-old man, Abdul  Makong, who has allegedly been parading himself as a Deputy Superintendent of Police,  has been arrested by the Anambra State Police Command.
Also arrested by the command were 43 members of the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra.

The fake DSP, it  was gathered was  going about extorting money from unsuspecting members of the public with a promise of assisting them during the recruitment into the Nigeria Police Force before he was arrested.

The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Hosea Karma, made this known while welcoming the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 9, Mr. Usman Gwary, on Tuesday to the state police command headquarters, Amawbia, Anambra State.
Parading Makong, the police commissioner explained that the suspect had just served out a prison term in April after he was convicted in 2013 for an impersonation-related offence.
He said the suspect, a native of Gari-Lamido in Taraba State, was arrested following a tip-off.

The ex-convict was said to have gone to the palace of a traditional ruler in Awka-South Local Government Area of the state, urging the people to pay various sums of money in order to facilitate the recruitment of interested members of the community into the police force.
The Police commissioner warned members of the public to be wary of characters like Makong, stating that recruitment into the NPF was transparent, devoid of any manipulation.

He  enumerated the  problems confronting the police in the state to include the  location of the  command, lack of police barracks and shortage of manpower.

In his address, Gwary said his visit to the command was in compliance with the directive of the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase, to him to tour police headquarters in the zone to sensitise the security operatives on the new security initiatives of the current administration.

He described the South-East as one of the most peaceful zones in the country, according to a recent investigation conducted by a special team, set up by the IG.

The AIG warned officers and men of the  command not to  compromise the peaceful security atmosphere prevailing in the  area.
