In a statement released on social media, the group identified the gunman as Abu Yahya al-Qayrawani.
It described him as a “solider of the caliphate” and most of the killed as “subjects of states that make up the crusader alliance fighting the state of the caliphate”.
At least 27 people were killed in armed attack on a Tunisian tourist hotel in the popular resort of Sousse, the interior ministry official said on Friday.
The city of Sousse is one of the most prominent touristic destinations in the country.
Since the revolution, there was one terrorist attempt outside a hotel in the region but it failed after the suicide bomber died before reaching the hotel’s gate.
