A 33-year-old bricklayer, Taoreed Oseni, was yesterday sentenced to 12 years imprisonment by a Lagos High Court sitting in Ikeja for raping an 18-year-old bread hawker (names withheld).
The presiding judge, Justice Sedoten Ogunsoye, ordered that the imprisonment should take effect from the August 2, 2012, when the convict was arrested.
Oseni, who was slammed with a one-count charge of rape, was said to have committed the offence on
July 20, 2012, at an abandoned public toilet in Mafoluku area of Oshodi, Lagos.
The victim had, during the trial, told the court that Taoreed informed her that her boyfriend was calling her in an uncompleted building.
She said on getting to the building, the convict forced her to lie down, saying he wanted to sleep with her.
She said she started pleading with the convict, who brought out a bottle and hit her on the forehead.
She said that she then gave up and he had his way.
In his defence, the convict told the court that he was drunk when the incident happened.
