This came as unspecified number of youths in the area renounced membership of their cult groups, weekend.
The vigilante members, sources said, were among scores of members of various cult groups apprehended by the police in the clampdown on cultists in the area.
It would be recalled that cultists went on rampage in the town last week, unleashing mayhem on residents of the area, following a violent clash between members of rival cult groups.
A source who craved anonymity, told journalists that the two vigilante team members were members of rival cult groups.
“In their confessional statements, some of the cultists arrested during the raid told the police that the two vigilante members were among members of the rival cult groups that have been causing trouble in the town,” the source said.
He, however, disclosed that some youths in the town had begun to renounce cultism on the orders of the community’s leadership in a bid to rid the area of the activities of cultists.
“They have been asked to provide affidavit of renunciation and some of them have started doing so,” he added.
Contacted, Police Public Relations Officer of the state police command, Celestina Kalu, confirmed the arrest, saying the leadership of Oleh had met and agreed that cultists be given till tomorrow to renounce membership of their cult groups or face the wrath of the law.
Kalu explained that those renouncing were expected to write and copy the police and leadership of the community.
