A 30-year man who allegedly raped a minor was on Tuesday charged before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos. The accused, Peter Ekom, who resides at 43, Ariori St., Maliki Oshodi, Lagos, is facing a charge of rape.
The prosecutor, Insp. Simon Imhonwa, told the court that the accused, who was a co-tenant with the minor’s parents, committed the offence on Nov. 3 at about 1.00 p.m at their residence.
He alleged that the accused lured the 11-year old girl into his room and forcefully had sexual intercourse with her. “Ekom took advantage of the child and defiled her. He caused her severe physical and emotional injuries,” Imhonwa said.
Imhonwa said that the offence contravened of Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011. The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge. In his ruling, Magistrate Mrs Bola Osunsanmi admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N300, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
She ordered that the sureties must be working in reputable companies and must show evidences of tax payment. Osunsanmi adjourned the case to Jan.13, 2016.
