'I would rather LOSE than win for Jose Mourinho' --Chelsea star

Jose Mourinho post-match interview
The remarkable claim was made on Sunday morning as questions on Jose Mourinho's future once again were on everybody's lips.

A first-team player at Chelsea has reportedly said that he would rather LOSE than win for manager Jose Mourinho.

The astonishing claim came from BBC Radio 5Live reporter Garry Richardson, who believes that the relationship between players and manager has hit "rock bottom".

Mourinho's future looks in doubt after being thumped 3-1 at Stamford Bridge by Liverpool - their sixth defeat in 11 league games this season.

Only Norwich have conceded more goals than the Blues this campaign.

Such is the size of the crisis, one Chelsea player is claimed to have lost complete faith in manager Mourinho.

Speaking on the BBC's Sportsweek programme, Richardson said: “Let me tell you what I know on the Chelsea story. My information comes from a Chelsea first team player.

“The information was actually passed to me by a football contact.

“I was told they’re fed up with the way he’s been dealing with some of them. They’re fed up with his outbursts.

"I was told that his relationship particularly with Eden Hazard was under immense strain.

"Here's a staggering quote. One player said recently, 'I'd rather lose than win for him'. Now that last quote may well have been said in the heat of the moment, but it perhaps gives an insight into the mood of some of the players."

The reverse against Liverpool piled yet more pressure on the Special One with suggestions his time could be up at Stamford Bridge as early as this week.

And the man himself did nothing to dampen such talk in his post-match interview.

"Of course, the fight goes on. But sometimes there are fights that are very impossible to win - you go to a fight with different ammunition," he told the BBC.

"There are sometimes fights you cannot win."

The result leaves Chelsea languishing in 15th place with just 11 points from 11 games.

Such a paltry points haul marks this season as the worst Premier League title defence in history and Mourinho conceded that sometimes it's just not your day.

"I can play against any team, I can play against any manager, my team can play against any team and win and lose but more than this is difficult," he added.

When pressed for his thoughts in his earlier interview with BT Mourino refused to be drawn batting away questions no fewer than ELEVEN times.

Did the game get away from you today?

"I have nothing to say."

Nothing about the game today?

"I have nothing to say".

Nothing about the Lucas decision which left him on the pitch?

"I have nothing to say."

The Costa clash?

"I have nothing to say, I am so sorry but I have nothing to say."

Do you not feel it's time to have a chat to the fans to give them some message or some indication of your thinking?

"The fans are not stupid."

We heard them chanting your name?

"The fans are not stupid."

You said last week you weren't worried - are you more worried now?

"No"

Are you worried about your future, your own position, the backing of the club?

"No"

Nothing about the game at all?

"No"

No individual performance you'd like to pick out?

"No"

Nothing about the performance going ahead?

"No"

Nothing about the way you can fix it?

"I cannot say"
