The police in Ogun are working hard to unravel the mystery surrounding the discovery of the corpse of a yet-to-be-identified young lady inside a barrel filled with water in Oke-Ison in Oke-Efon area of Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

The victim was not only “drowned” inside the drum of water by unknown persons, her body was also partially burnt.

The strange development reportedly occurred between Wednesday night and Thursday morning.

The owners of a bungalow had woken up to behold the sight of a steel drum usually kept empty at the back of the house now suddenly brought to the frontage by unknown persons overnight, filled with water and covered.

On opening the drum, the curious landlord was confronted with the shocking and gory sight of a dead teenage girl inside the drum of water.

The wife of the landlord of the house in front of whose building the strange find was made, Mrs. Memudat Adekunle, expressed shock at the strange development and raised the alarm. Adekunle said that she was surprised when she woke up that morning and found the steel drum in a different place from where it was before her household went to bed penultimate Wednesday. She disclosed that the drum was also not even covered as at the previous night.

“I was so shocked and scared when at about 6:54am that day I woke up, saw the drum in a strange place and opened it to behold the dead body. I ran back into the house to wake my husband to come and see the strange thing. Then the two of us started shouting for help. We called on neighbours to come and see this strange thing,” narrated the woman.

Other landlords in the area immediately headed to the Adatan Police Station where they reported the incident.

After a preliminary investigation and search of the area which is “bushy”, the police decided to take the body to the mortuary.

Investigations by our correspondent revealed that the area has become the haven for secret cult members.

As at the time of filing this reported, the police have yet to ascertain the identity of the victim.

Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, a deputy superintendent of police, said there were conflicting accounts about the incident. He, however, assured that the state Commissioner of Police, Abdulmajeed Ali, had already ordered a thorough investigation of the strange incident.
