11 burnt to death in Ondo Motor Vehicle Accident

No fewer than 11 people were burnt to death while many were injured on Thursday in an auto crash that occurred at Oke Igbo on Ile-Ife/Ondo Road in Ile Oluji /Oke Igbo Local Government Area of Ondo State.

According to an eyewitness, the accident which happened at about 7.45pm, was caused by recklessness of one of the drivers of the affected vehicles.

The eyewitness said that the driver of a Toyota Camry car lost control of the vehicle after one of the car tyres burst while on a very high speed and swerved to the other side of the road, thereby colliding with an 18-passengers commercial bus coming from the opposite direction.


After the head-on collision, the two vehicles were said to have caught fire and burnt down completely, with 11 of the occupants of the both vehicles burnt beyond recognition while others, including a toddler sustained varying degrees of injuries ,

It was gathered that the victims of the accident were rushed to the Trauma Hospital in Ondo town where they were receiving medical treatment. The corpses of the dead passengers had been deposited at the morgue of the General Hospital in Ondo town.

However, efforts to reach the Head of Operation of the Federal Road Safety Commission , Mr. Adewumi Malomo, on the telephone on the matter was unsuccessful as he did not pick calls made to his mobile telephone as of the time of filing this report.

Also, the state Public Relations Officer of the Police Command, Mr. Wole Ogodo, said he did not have any information on the accident.
