The Christian Association of Nigeria, Lagos Island chapter, has backed the Lagos State Environmental and Protection Agency’s move to curb noise and air pollution in the state.

LASEPA had sealed some hotels, churches and mosques over alleged noise and air pollution.

No fewer than 30 facilities were shut in the Ketu, Ikorodu, Ibeju-Lekki, Victoria Island and Surulere areas of the state.

The Lagos Island chapter of CAN in a statement on Thursday said the action was commendable.

The statement read in part, “We cannot but commend LASEPA’s stand, action and its uncompromising decision taken on environmental and noise pollution in Lagos State.

“We join the agency in advocating the eradication of this enigma constituting public nuisance in Lagos State.”

The association called for the prosecution of erring citizens and organisations.

It said, “We seize this opportunity to implore LASEPA to see that all parts of the state are sanitised and the excesses of houses of worship with horn, studio, field or stadium speakers are curbed. We call for holistic clampdown, prosecution and sanction of culprits who do not adhere to the law.”

The chapter pledged its support towards making the move a reality.
