Arsenal defender Nacho Monreal is set to sign a two-year deal with Spanish club Athletic Bilbao, according to reports in Spain media outlets.
The Spaniard is likely to return home to La Liga this week, having previously had spells at Osasuna and Malaga.
Meanwhile, talks between Arsenal and Monreal's representatives to extend his Arsenal contract beyond the end of next season have stalled and Athletic Bilbao are closing in on a £6m swoop for the versatile defender.
A report by Spain Top media outlet Marca also revealed that the 29-year-old will initially pen a two-year deal with the Basque side, with the option of a further year based on appearance-related objectives.
The gunners are currently in Singapore to contest the Barclays Asia Trophy but an agreement between Arsenal and Bilbao is set to be sealed in the coming days.
Monreal, who signed for Arsene Wenger's men in January 2013 for a fee of around £8m, impressed last season and made 39 appearances, with most of them being as a makeshift centre-back.
