Three people have been confirmed dead while three others sustained injuries in an accident involving an Opel Vectra car and a Ford Galaxy bus along the Bauchi-Jos road on Monday.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Bauchi State, Haruna Mohammed, in a statement in Bauchi, said that the Opel Vectra vehicle coming from Jos, left its lane and collided with the other vehicle in the opposite direction.
He said that as a result, both vehicles skidded off the road.
He said, “On Sunday, July 26, 2015, at about 8.30 am, there was a fatal motor vehicle accident involving an Opel Vectra, with registration number AG 277 DNG, driven by one Muktar Isah, male, (20) of Magama Gumau in Toro LGA and a Ford Galaxy bus with registration number KWK 233 XA driven by one Inspector Bilat Samaila, male (46).
The accident occurred when the Opel Vectra coming from Jos and heading towards Bauchi, left its lane and collided with the Ford Galaxy bus. As a result, both vehicles skidded off the road.”
The PPRO said that the scene of the accident was visited by the police and that the victims who sustained injuries were rushed to the hospital.
He said, “Three victims were certified dead by a medical doctor while three others who sustained injuries are responding to treatment.
“The names of the victims who were confirmed dead are Adamu Bako, male (29), and Maryam Bako, female (34), both of Kaduna State and Rabi Shuaibu, female (50) of Kokgah, Toro LGA of Bauchi State.”
The police spokesman added that Ismail Shuaibu, male (34) of Kokgah, Toro LGA, Rose Yakubu, female (34) of FCT Abuja and Lawan Bilyaminu, male (3), of Kayarda in Kaduna State were injured.
He said that the case was under investigation.
It will be recalled that a Toyota bus with 18 passengers last Thursday crashed into a military checkpoint in Narabi village along the Bauchi-Jos Road injuring 11 passengers, including a five-year-old child.
The PPRO, in a statement in Bauchi, had said that the driver of the bus, one 25-year- old Idris Adamu, of Darazo LGA, lost control, making the bus to skid off the road.
