A civil society group, Advocacy for Societal Rights Advancement and Development Initiative, ASRADI, has accused the Central Bank Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, of needless sycophancy.

‎ In a letter signed by the NGO’s Executive Director, Adeolu Oyinlola and addressed to the governor (a copy of which was made available to THISDAY), the group wrote: “We watched on television with deep indignation and considerable revulsion, your appearance at the Senate on Wednesday, 8th July, where you claimed Mr. Buhari’s blocking of leakages has led to an appreciation of Nigeria’s foreign reserves”.

ASRADI asked: “Were you implying that there were brazen leakages during the life of the immediate past administration?”

The CBN Governor spoke at an interactive session between the Senate and officials of the bank on Wednesday, July 8, 2015, where Senate President, Dr. Olubukola Saraki, advised the bank to intensify collaboration with other agencies of government with a view to achieving its statutory mandate.

Earlier, Mr. Godwin Emefiele had sought the assistance of the Senate towards putting in place legislation needed to curb leakages that were inimical to the Nigerian economy.
