OPERATIVES of the Inspector General Of Police, Special Intelligence Response Team (SIRT) has arrested one of the suspected leaders of the gang that recently raided banks in Agbara Industrial Estate, Ogun State which led to the death of a nursing mother and a mobile police officer.

Suspected armed robbers numbering about 20 and dressed in military camouflage last week Thursday, held the town under seige for several hours as they raided about three banks before escaping with their loot through the waterways to the creeks.

The suspect, simply identified as Kelly Rotor together with three others was tracked and arrested at a wedding ceremony after a heavy shootout between detectives and members of his gang at Sapele, Delta State. The shootout also led to the death of a police officer who was also at the scene of the incident.

According to a reliable source, Kelly had been on the wanted list of the police after the Lekki bank robbery when some of the suspects arrested mentioned his name as a top man in the syndicate who recruits new members for the gang from Delta state. He is alleged to be the owner of the boat that was used during the Lekki, Ikorodu, Festac and Agbara robbery operations.

It was gathered that these robberies were co-ordinated from their bases in Fatola camp, Ikorodu and Ajagemo camp by the overall leader of the camps simple identified as the General.

It was gathered that the hoodlums, during the Agbara raid, stole about N28million which was shared among the leaders in the camp. Kelly was said to have received his share of the loot and returned to his base in Delta state.

On their arrest, Daily Sun gathered that the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Solomon Arase, determined to bring their reign of terror to an end, drafted the special elite unit, SIRT to fish out the suspects who have held Lagos and Ogun under siege in recent times.

According to sources from the police, Kelly after getting his share of the loot traveled down to Sapele to attend a wedding ceremony where detectives who had been on his trail arrested him.

Kelly who was one of the special guests of honor at the event was seen throwing money around to the amazement of the guests who rallied around him in recognition of his generosity to the community.

At the end of the event, detectives who patiently monitored the event, accosted him. On sensing trouble, he was said to have ordered his armed guards to shoot at the policemen. He was later arrested with bullet injuries.

It was also gathered that he confessed to have witnessed the execution of DSS operatives who were abducted in Ikorodu few months ago.

According to investigation, Kelly claimed that they never planned to kill the DSS operatives but one of the gang leaders decided to execute them. He also said that they were buried in Ikorodu area of Lagos state. He warned that any attempt to go into the creeks by operatives would be suicidal as the gang members in the creeks are heavily armed.

He also confessed that before every bank raid, members always study the environment for weeks before they attack.

Efforts are still on to arrest the rest who are on the run.
