At least 11 killed, 57 injured in Kano suicide bomb attack [Graphic Photos]


The Police in Kano have confirmed the death of 11 persons, including two female suicide bombers, while 57 were injured in an explosion which occurred at the GSM market located at Farm Centre in Kano metropolis, yesterday.

The blast came barely 24 hours after about 30 persons were killed in similar circumstances in Yola, Adamawa State.

Following the blasts, President Muhammadu Buhari told Nigerians not to despair, assuring that his administration would soon defeat Boko Haram insurgents.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Muhammad Katsina, confirmed the death while briefing newsmen in Kano.

Katsina also said eight other persons sustained injuries during the incident which happened around 4.30 p.m.

According to him, the incident happened when a Sharon Space Wagon vehicle arrived at the market with six passengers and dropped two females at the market.

He said soon after the suspects alighted from the vehicle, the suspects entered the GSM market through different gates and detonated the bombs.

The commissioner said five persons, including the bombers, lost their lives, while eight others were injured, adding that the injured had since been taken to hospital for treatment.

He called on residents to be extra careful and report any suspected character or movement to security agents for prompt response.

Don’t lose hope, Buhari pleads with Nigerians

Meanwhile, President Buhari has told Nigerians not to despair, assuring that his administration would soon defeat Boko Haram insurgents.

Buhari also called on the people to have confidence in the ability of Nigeria’s reinvigorated, well-equipped and well-motivated Armed Forces and security agencies to overcome Boko Haram very soon.

The President, who spoke through his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, in a statement, in the aftermath of the dastardly terror attacks in the two northern states, requested an increased vigilance among the civilian population to help ward off suicide terror attacks on soft targets around the country.

He condoled the families of the victims of the bomb blasts, promising to fish out and bring to justice the perpetrators of the crimes.

The statement read:  “The President condemned in strongest terms the barbaric suicide terrorist attacks which took place in Yola on the evening of Tuesday, November 17 and in Kano today, causing numerous deaths and injuries among civilians.

“The President extends his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims as well as to the Government and people of Adamawa and Kano States respectively.

“President Buhari reassures Nigerians that his administration is very much determined to wipe out Boko Haram in Nigeria and bring all perpetrators of these heinous crime against humanity to justice.

“The President urges all Nigerians not to despair in the face of cowardly terrorist attacks but to have confidence in the ability of Nigeria’s reinvigorated, well-equipped and well-motivated   Armed Forces and security agencies to overcome Boko Haram very soon.”
