Subotic not happy at Borussia Dortmund but the club not planning sale to Liverpool - Zorc

Neven Subotic
Borussia Dortmund have said they are not planning to sell reported Liverpool target Neven Subotic but admit he is unhappy with his situation at the club.

Subotic, 26, was a key player for Dortmund under Jurgen Klopp but the centre-back has featured just twice in the club's 25 competitive games under Thomas Tuchel so far this season.

Subotic has failed to make Tuchel's squad on occasion, and holding midfielder Sven Bender has been used in central defence, but BVB sporting director Michael Zorc told Bild that they are not currently planning a sale.

"We are still playing the first half of the season and we are not thinking about letting him go, but naturally we will discuss his situation," Zorc said.

"It's an unusual and difficult situation for him. Neven copes with it professionally, but naturally he is not happy."

Subotic, who signed a new contract until 2018 in May, has been linked with a move to Liverpool and Reds boss Klopp has confirmed there is no agreement in place to prevent him signing players from Dortmund.

Subotic followed Klopp from Mainz to Dortmund in the summer of 2008, and the defender did not rule out a reunion when asked about a move to Anfield on 1live radio recently, saying: "I can't comment on it."

Subotic may be given the chance to impress in Saturday's game away to Wolfsburg after the club confirmed that both Mats Hummels and Sokratis Papastathopoulos would miss out with a cold.

Subotic made a total of 40 appearances for Dortmund in all competitions last season, and was an important part of the title-winning sides in 2011 and 2012.
