Four men have been arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrate’s Court for allegedly forming an unlawful society, known as Aiye Confraternity, a secret cult.
This came as 17 men were arraigned before same court for allegedly conducting themselves in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by molesting and causing havoc to innocent passers-by and robbery.
The suspected cultists include Good, 18; Lilly, 18; Bidemi, 23; and Babasola, 18.
The defendants were alleged to have committed the offence on June 22, at Isawo Road in Western Lodge Hotel, Agric Bus Stop, Ikorodu, Lagos.
According to the prosecutor, Samson Ekikere, the offence is punishable under Section 409 and 42(a)(b) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2011.
However, the defendants pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of felony and unlawful society slammed on them before the court.
Magistrate Y. O. Aje-Afunwa, granted them bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties, who must have verifiable addresses.
She subsequently adjourned the matter till November 9 for mention.
The 17 suspects arraigned for allegedly conducting themselves in a disorderly manner are Ismaila 20; Yusuf,18; Kabiru, 19; Adeleke, 29; Afolabi, 27; Shehu, 20; Ibrahim, 28.
Others are Afolabi, 27; Lawal, 20; Joel,18; Okafor,28; Kareem, 22; Usman, 20; Obasi,26; Ibrahim, 28; Ayuba, 35 and Abubakar, 21.
The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to them.
This prompted the court, presided over by Chief Magistrate Y. O. Aje-Afunwa, to grant them bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties, who must be gainfully employed with verifiable addresses.
She adjourned the matter till October 21 for DPP’s advice.
They are all facing a three-count charge of conspiracy to commit felony to wit robbery and conduct in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by molesting and causing havoc preferred against them by the police.
The prosecutor, Assistant Superintendent of Police Samson Ekikere, told the court that the defendants committed the alleged offence on July 4 at Ijora Oloye Bus Stop, Lagos State.
He also informed the court that the offence was punishable under Section 409,166(d) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2011.
