A former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Mr. Godsday Orubebe, on Friday described the meeting of ex-militants called by the leader of the defunct Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, Chief Government Ekpemupolo, aka Tompolo, as irrelevant.

Orubebe, who spoke in a telephone interview with our correspondent, said, “I do not see the need for such meeting, especially when the Boko Haram sect is still bombing.

“Although the meeting planned to review activities in President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, I found it unnecessary.”

Also, an Asaba-based rights activist, Mrs. Bridget Ayanfulu, said the meeting was called to instigate violence because those behind the meeting did not have access to Buhari as they did to former President Goodluck Jonathan.

Ayanfulu, however, said Tompolo must be checked.

She said, “Tompolo has to watch his utterances and stop secret meetings.”
